Exception for scientific research (Article 57c of the Copyright and Related Rights Act)

For the purposes of non-commercial scientific research, it is permitted to reproduce, distribute, and communicate to the public up to 15% of a published work. For personal scientific research, reproduction of up to 75% of the work is permitted. Photographs, illustrations and short articles may be used in their entirety. Researchers and reviewers may also exchange such works with one another, but only within the framework of an individual research project. The works may not be used for any other purpose or shared with persons not directly involved in the research. In all cases, the source and authorship must be clearly indicated, and lawful access to the work must be ensured.

Example: If Ana needs to use a larger portion of a book for her research, she may reproduce up to 75% of its content for her own scientific work. However, she may not share that portion with others or make it public, as it is permitted only for her personal research use. If Ana wishes to reproduce more than 75% of the book, she must obtain permission from the author, publisher, or other rightholder.
