Public archives, libraries, museums, film or audio heritage institutions and public broadcasting organizations may reproduce works from their collections when such reproduction is necessary for their preservation. This includes measures required to prevent deterioration, damage, or loss of the work.


Example: A library holds an old book that is rapidly deteriorating due to age and frequent handling. To preserve it, the library digitizes the book and stores the digital copy in its archive.
