Which license should I choose for scientific publications, monographs and metadata?

For most scientific publications, Creative Commons licenses are the standard choice, especially CC BY and CC BY-SA.

For monographs or other extensive scientific publications that contain material owned by third parties, a less permissive license may be necessary. In such cases, the work may be published under CC BY-NC (NonCommercial) or CC BY-ND (NoDerivatives)

Metadata about scientific publications must be publicly accessible. If metadata are protected by copyright they should be released under the most permissive possible license. Recommended options are CC0 or CC BY
