How does employment relationship affect professors’ copyrights?

If a copyrighted work is created in the course of fulfilling duties arising from an employment relationship or under instructions of the employer, the author’s economic and other rights in that work are deemed to be exclusively transferred to the employer for a period of ten years. In the case of professors employment by a university, their economic rights are therefore transferred to the university. After the expiry of the ten-year period, the employer may request another exclusive transfer of rights, subject to the payment of appropriate compensation. For certain types of works, such as databases, collective works, and computer programs, the rights are transferred to the employer without any time limitation. Despite the transfer of economic rights, the professor retains the right to include his or her works within the framework of their collected works.
