What rights belong to a professor who participates in writing an encyclopedia, anthology, or other collective work?

Encyclopedias, anthologies and similar works are typically considered collective works, as they are created at the initiative and under an organization or client, with the participation of multiple authors. Such works are generally published under the name of the organization, for example, a university or faculty.

The publication of a collective work must be governed by a specific contract. Unless otherwise provided in that contract, the economic and other rights of the authors in the collective work are deemed to be exclusively and permanently transferred to the client (the commissioning organization).
