How does employment relationship affect professors’ copyrights? Can a professor publish his or her book in an online classroom? What rights belong to a professor who participates in writing an encyclopedia, anthology, or other collective work? Is it permissible to use copyrighted works (e.g. literary excerpts, photographs, etc.) for teaching purposes? Can a professor include a copyrighted photograph in a textbook?

Is a professor allowed to post hyperlinks to various websites in the online classroom to support the understanding of the material?

Yes.


Under applicable copyright law, posting hyperlinks to online content does not in principle constitute copyright infringement. An infringement would occur if, by posting a link, the professor circumvented technical or contractual access restrictions (for example, linking to content that is behind a paywall or otherwise restricted to specific users).
